 Export – Classification of Goods

 Nomenclature

To complete the Register of Exporters and Importers (REI) in SISCOMEX, the company must classify its products according to two nomenclatures: The Common Nomenclature of MERCOSUL (NCM) and the Customs Nomenclature ALADI (NALADI/SH), both created on the International Convention on the Harmonic System of Nomenclature and Coding of Goods (SH) signed in Brussels on June 14th, 1983. The SH has 6 digits, but each country may add up to four digits.

Common Nomenclature of MERCOSUL (NCM): was created in 1995, when MERCOSUL came into force, and approved by Decree 2.376, dated November 13th 1997, together with import tax values that comprise the Common External Tariff - TEC. To include export offers and to consult Business Opportunities or items of the Products and Markets sector, the registered user in BrazilTradeNet has access to NCM in Portuguese, Spanish and English.

NCM, that substitutes the Brazilian Nomenclature for Goods (NBM) has 8 digits and a structure of classification that contains 6 levels of aggregation: chapter, position, simple sub position, composed sub position, item and sub-item

Chapter: the indication of Chapter in the code is represented by the first two numbers.
Position: the Position in the Chapter is identified by the first four numbers.
Simple Sub position: is represented by the fifth digit
Composed Sub position: is represented by the sixth digit
Item: is a subdivision of the SH, represented, in the code by the seventh digit
Sub-item: is a subdivision of the item, represented in the code by the eighth digit.
